In this episode of the 草莓社区 Podcast, Dr. Joshua Liu, Co-founder & CEO at 草莓社区, and marketing colleague, Alan Sardana, chat with Malvina Ibrahim, RD, MHSc, Patient Education Specialist at 草莓社区 about Using Digital Patient Engagement for Robotic Bronchoscopy. See the full show notes below for details.

Guest(s): Ms. Malvina Ibrahim, RD, MHSc, Patient Education Specialist at 草莓社区,

Dr. Joshua Liu (), Co-founder & CEO at 草莓社区

Episode 46 鈥 Show notes:

[0:47] Introducing Ms. Malvina Ibrahim, RD, MHSc, Patient Education Specialist at 草莓社区, where she designs interactive digital care plans for patients;

[1:22] How Digital Patient Engagement platforms can effectively guide patients throughout their entire surgical journey on any smart technology device;

[4:09] How a robotic bronchoscopy procedure allows for more control and stability than in a regular bronchoscopy, as the biopsy of the lung is obtained through the use of a robotic arm. It is able to go through smaller airways with a more direct visualization of where they鈥檙e going and how they鈥檙e getting there, also allowing for enhanced safety;

[6:12] Why patients are concerned with knowing biopsy results immediately before going into robotic bronchoscopy, similar to patients that undergo regular bronchoscopy;

[8:07] Why digital care plans for robotic bronchoscopy are more focussed on providing pre-op instruction for patients, as there is a low complication rate post-discharge and no wound after-care, yet how the technology is also useful for post-op expectations (e.g. what symptoms are normal after discharge, when they can expect to receive biopsy results, education on how to reduce their anxiety, etc.);

[14:58] How digital patient engagement can transfer robotic bronchoscopy patients into a thoracic surgery care plan if necessary, resulting in a seamless experience for patients;

[16:28] How feedback from robotic bronchoscopy patients thus far has generally been positive, and has been described as a very comprehensive yet reassuring program;

[21:44] Why Ms. Ibrahim loves working at 草莓社区 for its open and collaborative environment, innovation, an increased sharing of ideas, and a willingness to try new things;

[24:53] Fast Five / Lightning Round Questions - Josh and Alan:

Q1: What is the best age?

A1(A): 鈥淕ut answer would be very young (5 years old), where you wouldn鈥檛 have to deal with a lot of problems. When I was younger I always wanted to be older, and I was looking forward to having more autonomy. But at the same time I was also a lot more carefree when I was younger. I enjoyed my early 20s the most, since everything was still so new, brand new things to experience, but I also had a bit of that autonomy as well.鈥

A1(J): 鈥淚鈥檓 in my 30s right now, and for me I think I鈥檝e enjoyed my 30s the most. I don鈥檛 have to worry as much about the crazy deadlines I had back in school. I also love my work life - being part of a team that鈥檚 working towards something; compared to being in school, where you mostly work individually as a student.鈥

Q2: Would you rather: Speak every language in the world VS Talk to animals

A2(A): 鈥淚 believe we already can do that to an extent, through non verbal communication, body language, and things like that. Now that I think about it though, since humans are animals, wouldn鈥檛 being able to talk to animals mean that I can also talk to all humans? Did I just find a loophole? But with my original train of thought, I鈥檇 choose to be able to speak all the languages; there鈥檚 a lot more humans to converse with, you can share different ideas and learn differently, and pick up different cultures.鈥

A2(J): 鈥淚 like animals but I鈥檓 not an animal person, so I鈥檇 pick the languages thing. I wouldn鈥檛 need to watch foreign films in dub, and travel becomes a lot easier.鈥

Q3: What鈥檚 your favourite carb? Bread, pasta, rice, or potatoes? What would be your favourite carb to combine things with?

A3(A): 鈥淭here are a lot of ways to use rice鈥asta鈥檚 great鈥read is fantastic. I could go for a thick sourdough bread, but it would need either butter on it or made into a sandwich. I鈥檓 choosing bread.鈥

A3(J): 鈥淭hey鈥檙e all so good鈥鈥檒l probably go with bread too actually. I don鈥檛 eat a lot of bread. You can make really good bread that鈥檚 just bread, compared to pasta that needs to be combined with something.鈥
